We collected coconut shells from a local restaurant. Next we used sandpaper to smooth the shells. We painted the shells with one color and then focused on using geometric shapes for design. A final coat of clear varnish was put on top to protect the shells from the elements outside. A hole was drilled on the top of the shell and little brass bells were inserted with a plastic rope. It was a creative way of showing the kids how to reuse and create art.

Unit of Inquiry: How We Organize Ourselves
Visual Art: From Farm To Table
For this unit we focused on photography of foods from farm to table
The students used a Canon IXUS 130 camera with instructions on first viewing their image through the lens and arranging it to their satisfaction and then taking the photograph
The students were creative--some stood on a chair and clicked with a top view, some moved their products to a different location and some added other props.
